What does D8 distinguish from D7? Here are the main differences in a nutshell.
- Login with generic
Please use the "Login with generic" button to log in.
- Media library
Media (images, pdf, video, audio) can now be reused - once they were uploaded - because D8 has a media library. You can (but don't have to) upload your media and add them to the media library before embedding them in articles or publications. In order to do so, go to CONTENT - ADD MEDIA upload the medium, and fill in the license information. Then go to the article/product form and click on the image-icon in the body editor to embed an image.
The Advanced Media Admin (in the CONTENT-Menu) provides an overview of all uploaded media (in the same way as the Advanced Content Admin does for articles, publications, landingpages, and persons).
- Image gallery node
Create an image gallery by clicking on CONTENT - ADD CONTENT - GALLERY, then embed it into your article. In order to do so, go to your article form and click on the gallery icon. Find your gallery (search by name) and embed it.
- Inserting external media into an article
In order to insert external media (e.g. from YouTube, Flickr, Twitter) click on the Media-button in the body-editor of your articles and just paste the respective URL. The media button is named URL and is next to the embed-gallery-button.
- Inserting/linking to a PDF into/in an article:
Go to the Advances Media Admin and find the PDF. Click on it (twice) until you see the pdf itself in your browser. Grab/copy the URL. Go into your article form, add the link text, click on the link symbol and paste the URL.
- Image alignment
Images have not any longer to be aligned apostille or marginalia but simply left or right. Alignment left makes them float like formerly marginalia, alignment right makes them float like formerly apostille.
D7 used to create a new node (article, publication, person, landingpage) for each language version. In D8, one node is used for all languages.
In order to find your node or to create one in another language, just click on TRANSLATE and chose the language for your translation. Please note, that a node (article, publication, person) cannot be assigned as a translation if not created as transalation right from the beginning.
- "Call to Action" Box
The Banner-Box is now named Call to action - box.
Unfortunately, your webforms could not be migrated from D7, hence you will have to re-create them. The start point to create a webform is STRUCTURE - WEBFORMS. Ask for support if you need help doing this.
The D7-sidebars were disabled, however not their contents. The contents were moved into grid-boxes which you probably will have to re-arrange in the landingpage grids. You will find sidebar contents at the bottom of your landingpages. You cannot create any new sidebars, thus the sidebar containers were removed from the container options.
There is an archive-checkbox in all article forms and product forms now. This is because we want to be able to flag older articles as "archive". In addition to this (probably graphical) flag, we will set a link that says "This article might not any longer represent the position of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung." (or similar). The archive issue also may have an impact on the ranking of articles in search engines like Google, that's why we are still discussing the best solution.
- List boxes in the grid
We have merged the many list boxes (as for instance "article by category", "article by format") to just three new boxes: RSS, Nodes- by-selection, and Media-by-selection. You will find all filter options in the Nodes- by-selection-box and can add media to the grid using the Media-by-selection-box.
- Creating a stub
Stubs cannot longer be created in CONTENT - ADD CONTENT, but there is an easier way: Just create an article and fill in the title, teaser, teaser image and Redirect-URL fields. This "stub" can then be added to a grid by using the CONTENTS-box.
- Content Sharing
The Content Sharing is much easier than before: Go to CONTENT - ADD CONTENT - IMPORT NODE and paste the URL of the node that is to be shared, decide whether as copy or as reference and press ENTER.
